Stewardship and Financial Services

The Department of Stewardship and Financial Ministries of the ABC District of Lutheran Church–Canada is responsible for the management of the financial resources of the district. The department’s focus is divided between two areas. The first is assisting congregations and their member in the management of God’s provided gifts. The second is the development and management of the resources necessary to make possible the attainment of the mission and the ministries of the congregations throughout Alberta and British Columbia.

The Department of Stewardship and Financial Ministries continues to be challenged in its ministry with the congregations of ABC District, recognizing our role to be that of a support system that stands ready to assist our constituents with the realization of their missions. We stand in awe of what God has done and continues to do, providing opportunities and resources to take advantage of those opportunities. We pray that God will continue to give us vision, courage, conviction and strength to do what we have been called to do. May we always trust in Him and seek His guidance and power to fully utilize these attributes to His glory and for the sake of His Gospel.

The department assists congregations and their members in two ways: it provides education and encouragement in the management of the resources that our God has entrusted to them. Secondly, it provides tools which enable them to be good stewards of those gifts. In order to carry out its responsibilities the department has divided itself into the following working committees:

Stewardship Committee: The committee is responsible for stewardship education throughout the district.

Church Extension Fund Committee: The committee’s main role is to oversee the operation of the Church Extension Fund through the development of policies and procedures that will govern the operation of the fund.

ABC District Foundation: Formed as a division of the Department of Stewardship and Financial Ministries in 1983 to provide services to congregational members in Christian asset and estate management, The Foundation has been moved to the Lutheran Church–Canada Financial Ministries for administration as of November 30, 2007.

Communications Committee: The committee’s challenge is to communicate the mission and ministry of the district to our members.

Finance Committee: This committee is concerned with the accounting and reporting of District’s financial activities, as well as the investment side of the Church Extension Fund’s operation. Concerned mostly with policy, this committee sets standards for audits, and investments as well as making recommendations on loan applications and interest rate changes.
