Download this guideline document which contains suggestions and ideas.
Numerous opportunities exist for people interested in participating in a short-term (or long-term!) mission trip. Check out the following opportunities:
BC Mission Boat: An outreach ministry of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Parksville, BC, the BC Mission Boat shows and shares the love of Christ through relationship ministry in Coastal BC. Land teams and boat teams minister in isolated communities leading VBSs, nail and hammer projects, leading worship, visiting and encouraging the Christians who live in the communities. Although much of the ministry is done through the summer months, a number of communities are visited throughout the year.
LAMP-Canada: The organization has been providing spiritual witness and nurture in communities in northern remote areas of Canada for over 35 years, through the ministry of pastor/pilots, and short and long-term volunteers-in-mission. LAMP presently works in 60 communities, teaching Vacation Bible School, youth and adult Bible study, and leading soccer camps in the summer months. This year over 4,000 children, youth and adults were impacted by the ministry of LAMP staff and volunteers.
LCMS World Missions: The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod has many short-term and long-term missionary service opportunities. Some of the short-term missionary service opportunities are from 2 days to 6 weeks. Long-term missionary service opportunities are 6 months and longer. You will want to visit the site to see where and how you might serve as a missionary.
Lutheran Bible Translators Canada: LBT recruits Lutherans to become missionaries to serve as Bible translation advisors and consultants, or as specialists in literacy, literature development, language survey and vernacular media. Support workers are recruited and sent to carry out specialized tasks such as tutoring missionary children or using computers to strengthen the language programs. Various kinds of missionary service field experiences are available.
MOST Ministries: MOST Ministries is committed to impacting the world for Jesus Christ through short term teams by empowering the found in reaching the lost. MOST Ministries partners with congregations and individuals to place teams in mission fields throughout the world so that these teams can support the local national church and pastors/missionaries. Mission trips include: eye-glass and medical clinics, nail and hammer projects, ESL, VBS and the like.
